Don't Give the Enemy an Open Door

☕ GOOD SUNDAY MORNING!

Good morning, friends! 💜

It's Sunday!

The coffee is pouring, the Bible is open, and somewhere somebody is already saying:

“We're going to be late for church!” 😂☕⛪

Maybe you're getting children ready.

Maybe you're deciding what to wear.

Maybe Sunday dinner is already in the crockpot.

Maybe you're sitting quietly before everyone else wakes up.

Whatever your Sunday morning looks like, take a few minutes before the busyness begins and spend them with God.

Yesterday we talked about guarding our thoughts.

Today we're moving from the mind...

💜 TO THE HEART.

Because spiritual battles aren't always obvious.

Sometimes the enemy doesn't need to destroy us.

He just needs to plant something small and convince us to keep it.

A little bitterness.

A little jealousy.

A little unforgiveness.

A little pride.

A little anger.

A little resentment.

And if we keep feeding it...

Little things grow.

That's why Scripture tells us:

“KEEP THY HEART WITH ALL DILIGENCE.”

📖 TODAY'S BIBLE READING

Proverbs 4:20–27 (KJV)

“My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings.”“Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart.”“For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh.”“Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.”“Put away from thee a froward mouth, and perverse lips put far from thee.”“Let thine eyes look right on, and let thine eyelids look straight before thee.”“Ponder the path of thy feet, and let all thy ways be established.”“Turn not to the right hand nor to the left: remove thy foot from evil.”

Look at everything mentioned here:

👂 What we hear.

👀 What we watch.

💜 What enters our hearts.

🗣️ What comes out of our mouths.

👣 Where our feet take us.

God cares about all of it.

Why?

Because what we repeatedly allow into our lives eventually influences how we live.

🛡️ ARMOR OF GOD STUDY

🚪 Don't Leave the Door Open

Imagine locking your house tonight.

You check the front door.

Lock it.

Check the back door.

Lock it.

Check the windows.

Everything looks good.

Then you say:

“Perfect!”

...and leave the garage door wide open. 😂

That wouldn't make much sense, would it?

Yet spiritually, we sometimes do something similar.

We go to church.

Read our Bible.

Pray.

Listen to Christian music.

Then leave an open door through:

Bitterness.

Unforgiveness.

Gossip.

Pride.

Jealousy.

Secret sin.

Anger.

Things we watch.

Things we listen to.

Things we allow to occupy our thoughts.

Paul warns:

“Neither give place to the devil.”— Ephesians 4:27 (KJV)

Don't give him a place.

Not even a little corner.

💜 TODAY'S FAITH THOUGHT

Be Careful What You Water

Here's a simple picture.

Imagine two plants sitting beside each other.

One is called:

🌱 FAITH

The other:

🌱 FEAR

Which one grows?

The one you keep watering.

Feed faith with:

📖 Scripture

🙏 Prayer

⛪ Worship

💜 Gratitude

🤝 Christian fellowship

Feed fear with:

Constant worrying.

Negative conversations.

Endless bad news.

Worst-case scenarios.

Comparing yourself to everyone else.

And guess which one gets bigger?

So today ask yourself:

WHAT AM I WATERING?

You cannot always control which thoughts knock on the door.

But you can decide which ones you invite inside, give coffee to, and let stay all weekend. 😂

🏡 HERITAGE CORNER

🍲 Sunday Dinner at Grandma's

There's something special about remembering Sunday dinners.

Church would let out...

And everybody knew where they were going.

Grandma's house.

Maybe there was fried chicken.

Mashed potatoes.

Green beans.

Corn.

Biscuits.

Macaroni and cheese.

Gravy.

And a dessert that Grandma claimed was:

“Just something I threw together.”

Meanwhile it took three hours and used every bowl in the kitchen. 😂

But Sunday dinner wasn't really about the food.

It was about the table.

Children listened to grown-ups talk.

Stories were repeated.

Family news was shared.

Someone usually stayed too long.

Somebody fell asleep in a chair.

Children played outside.

And for a few hours...

Everybody was together.

If your family still gathers around a table, don't underestimate it.

Put the phones down sometimes.

Tell the stories.

Ask Grandma questions.

Listen to Grandpa.

Let the children hear about where they came from.

Because someday they'll realize:

Those ordinary Sundays were extraordinary.

“And they, continuing daily with one accord... did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart.”— Acts 2:46 (KJV)

📜 TODAY IN HISTORY

🇺🇸 September 13, 1814 — The Inspiration for “The Star-Spangled Banner”

During the War of 1812, British forces bombarded Fort McHenry in Baltimore Harbor beginning on September 13, 1814.

American lawyer Francis Scott Key, watching the bombardment from a ship, wondered whether the American flag would still be flying over the fort when morning came.

After the long night...

The flag was still there.

The sight inspired Key to write the words that eventually became “The Star-Spangled Banner.”

There's something powerful about that picture.

The night was dark.

The battle was real.

The outcome wasn't yet visible.

But when morning came...

🇺🇸 THE FLAG WAS STILL STANDING.

And isn't that where we've been in our spiritual study?

Sometimes you don't know what the night will bring.

But with God...

You keep standing.

“Weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.”— Psalm 30:5 (KJV)

Dark chocolate.

Milk chocolate.

Chocolate cake.

Brownies.

Chocolate pie.

Chocolate-covered strawberries.

💜 POSITIVE THINKING DAY

September 13 is also commonly observed as Positive Thinking Day.

As Christians, our hope goes deeper than simply telling ourselves everything will be okay.

We choose to focus our minds on what is true and good because God tells us where to direct our thoughts.

“Whatsoever things are true... honest... just... pure... lovely... of good report... think on these things.”— Philippians 4:8 (KJV)

That's a pretty good Sunday assignment.

Protect Your Peace Without Hardening Your Heart

There's a difference between:

Guarding your heart

and

Building a wall around it.

God doesn't want us walking around suspicious of everybody.

Guarding your heart doesn't mean never loving again because someone hurt you.

It doesn't mean becoming cold.

It doesn't mean refusing to trust anyone.

It means learning wisdom.

You can forgive someone...

without returning to an unhealthy situation.

You can love someone...

without agreeing with everything they do.

You can pray for someone...

without giving them permission to repeatedly hurt you.

And you can protect your peace...

WITHOUT BECOMING BITTER.

That's spiritual maturity.

🛡️ FIVE HEART CHECKS FOR TODAY

1️⃣ Is there anyone I need to forgive?

Don't let yesterday live rent-free in today's heart.

2️⃣ Am I feeding faith or fear?

Pay attention to what you're consuming.

3️⃣ Is there something I need to stop watching, listening to, or participating in?

Guard the door.

4️⃣ Am I carrying bitterness?

Ask God to help you release it.

5️⃣ Does my heart look more like Jesus today than it did yesterday?

That's the goal.

Not perfection.

GROWTH.

📝 TODAY'S SUNDAY CHALLENGE

💜 LEAVE IT AT THE ALTAR

If you're going to church today...

Take something with you.

Not physically.

Something you've been carrying inside.

A hurt.

A worry.

An offense.

A fear.

A person you haven't forgiven.

A decision.

A burden.

When you pray today, tell God:

“LORD, I'M LEAVING THIS WITH YOU.”

And here's the hard part...

Don't pick it back up on the way out the church door.

Leave it there.

Go home lighter.

🙏 TODAY'S SUNDAY PRAYER

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for this beautiful Sunday.

Thank You for another opportunity to worship You.

Thank You for Your mercy that met us when we opened our eyes this morning.

Lord, guard our hearts.

Search us.

Reveal anything we've allowed inside that doesn't belong there.

Bitterness.

Jealousy.

Pride.

Unforgiveness.

Anger.

Fear.

Secret sin.

Anything separating us from You.

Help us close every door that needs to be closed.

Lord, bless churches gathering today.

Bless pastors as they preach Your Word.

Bless Sunday school teachers.

Musicians.

Choirs.

Greeters.

Nursery workers.

Volunteers.

And every person quietly serving without recognition.

Let someone walk into church today carrying a heavy burden...

and walk out knowing they are loved.

Let the lonely find fellowship.

Let the grieving find comfort.

Let the discouraged find hope.

Let the backslider come home.

Let the lost hear the Gospel.

Let Jesus be lifted up.

Protect our families.

Our children.

Our grandchildren.

Our marriages.

Our homes.

Our churches.

Give us clean hearts and right spirits.

And when we leave church today...

Don't let us simply say:

“That was a good service.”

Help us LIVE what we heard.

Let our words be different.

Our attitudes be different.

Our homes be different.

Our choices be different.

Make us more like Jesus.

Take it to Jesus.

Today:

☕ Enjoy your coffee.

📖 Read your Bible.

⛪ Worship the Lord.

🍲 Spend time with family.

💜 Forgive somebody.

🙏 Pray for somebody.

🌱 Feed your faith.

🚪 Close the doors that need closing.
