🙏 PRAYING ALWAYS

Don't Go Into the Battle Without Talking to God

“Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance...”— Ephesians 6:18 (KJV)

☕ GOOD TUESDAY MORNING!

Good morning, friends! 💜

Labor Day has passed, Tuesday has arrived, and for many of us it's back to our regular routines.

The alarm goes off.

Coffee gets poured. ☕

Lunches get packed.

Children head to school.

People head to work.

Appointments fill the calendar.

Phones start ringing.

And before we know it, we're running in ten different directions.

But before today's noise gets too loud...

🙏 TALK TO GOD.

We've spent the past several days putting on our spiritual armor:

🟤 Truth.

🛡️ Righteousness.

👣 The Gospel of Peace.

🛡️ Faith.

⛑️ Salvation.

⚔️ The Word of God.

But Paul doesn't stop there.

He immediately says:

“Praying always...”

We aren't meant to put on the armor and then march off without God.

Prayer keeps us connected to Him throughout the battle.

So grab your coffee.

Open your Bible.

And before we do anything else...

Let's spend some time with God.

📖 TODAY'S BIBLE READING

Philippians 4:4–9 (KJV)

“Rejoice in the Lord alway: and again I say, Rejoice.”“Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand.”“Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.”“And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”“Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.”“Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you.”

I love the order here.

🙏 Pray.

💜 Give thanks.

🕊️ Receive God's peace.

🧠 Guard what you think about.

Sometimes we're asking God for peace while feeding our minds worry all day long.

Paul gives us another way:

PRAY ABOUT IT.

🙏 ARMOR OF GOD STUDY

Why Is Prayer So Important?

Prayer isn't just something we do before meals.

It's not reserved for church.

And it isn't a last resort after we've tried everything else.

Prayer is communication with God.

Paul says:

“Praying always...”

That means you can pray:

🚗 Driving to work.

🧺 Folding laundry.

🛒 Walking through the grocery store.

☕ Drinking your morning coffee.

🏥 Sitting in a waiting room.

💼 Before a difficult meeting.

🏫 While your child walks into school.

🌙 Lying awake at night.

You don't need fancy words.

You don't need a microphone.

You don't need an audience.

Sometimes prayer is simply:

“Jesus, help me.”

Sometimes:

“Lord, give me wisdom.”

Sometimes:

“Thank You.”

And sometimes the hurt is so deep that you don't even know what to say.

God still hears the heart.

💜 TODAY'S FAITH THOUGHT

Pray First—Not Last

How often do we do this?

A problem happens.

We worry.

We call three people.

We search the internet.

We imagine every possible outcome.

We lose sleep.

We replay it over and over.

And eventually somebody asks:

“Have you prayed about it?”

And we think...

Well... not really. 😂

Friend, prayer shouldn't be the emergency exit.

Prayer should be the front door.

Before you respond to that message...

Pray.

Before you make the decision...

Pray.

Before the doctor's appointment...

Pray.

Before you confront someone...

Pray.

Before you walk into work...

Pray.

Before you give up...

PRAY.

God may not always answer the way we expect.

But prayer changes how we walk through what comes next.

🙏 Grandma's Prayer List

Before prayer apps, group texts, and social media prayer chains, many believers kept something simple:

A handwritten prayer list.

Maybe it was tucked inside a Bible.

Maybe names were written on an old church bulletin.

Maybe Grandma had a notebook beside her chair.

Children.

Grandchildren.

Neighbors.

Church members.

Missionaries.

Someone who was sick.

Someone looking for work.

Someone who had wandered away from God.

And beside some names, eventually there might be a little note:

ANSWERED.

What a treasure those old prayer lists can be.

They tell the story of ordinary people who believed God heard them.

If you've never kept a prayer journal, maybe today is a good day to start.

Write the date.

Write the request.

Then leave some room beside it.

Because one day you may get to write:

💜 GOD ANSWERED THIS PRAYER.

“The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.”— James 5:16 (KJV)

📜 TODAY IN HISTORY

🌉 September 8, 1900 — The Galveston Hurricane

On September 8, 1900, a devastating hurricane struck Galveston, Texas.

The storm caused catastrophic destruction and is remembered as the deadliest natural disaster in United States history, with estimates generally placing the death toll between 6,000 and 12,000 people.

The tragedy led to major changes in how Galveston prepared for future storms, including construction of a seawall and raising portions of the city's elevation.

History sometimes teaches us through painful chapters.

And one lesson is clear:

Preparation matters.

That's true physically.

And it's true spiritually.

Don't wait for the storm to begin before building your relationship with God.

Pray now.

Read Scripture now.

Build faith now.

Stay close to Jesus now.

Then when life's storms come...

You'll already know where your refuge is.

“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.”— Psalm 46:1 (KJV)

📚 INTERNATIONAL LITERACY DAY

September 8 is International Literacy Day, established by UNESCO to emphasize the importance of literacy.

The ability to read opens doors to education, opportunity, communication, and independence.

And as Christians, literacy gives us another tremendous gift:

The ability to read God's Word for ourselves.

For much of history, ordinary people didn't have the access to Scripture that many of us enjoy today.

Some of us have several Bibles sitting in our homes.

Don't take that blessing for granted.

📖 OPEN IT.

Read it.

Study it.

Share it.

Teach it to your children and grandchildren.

✝️ WORLD PHYSICAL THERAPY DAY

September 8 is also recognized as World PT Day, highlighting the work of physical therapists and the role they play in helping people regain movement, function, strength, and independence.

Today we can thank those who patiently help people through rehabilitation and recovery.

And if you've ever gone through physical therapy, you probably know one thing:

Progress often comes one small step at a time.

That's true spiritually too.

Don't become discouraged because you aren't where you want to be yet.

Keep taking the next faithful step.

God Hears the Prayer Nobody Else Knows You're Praying

Some prayers are spoken at church.

Some are shared with friends.

Some are posted in prayer groups.

But then there are those prayers...

The ones you whisper when nobody is listening.

The name you keep bringing before God.

The child you're worried about.

The situation you haven't told anyone.

The grief that still hurts.

The financial need you're embarrassed to mention.

The dream you're afraid to say out loud.

The question you keep asking.

Friend...

GOD HEARS THAT PRAYER TOO.

You don't have to make your prayer impressive.

You just have to bring it to Him.

“Evening, and morning, and at noon, will I pray, and cry aloud: and he shall hear my voice.”— Psalm 55:17 (KJV)

Keep praying.

🙏 FIVE PRAYER REMINDERS

1️⃣ Pray before you panic.

Take the problem to God first.

2️⃣ Prayer doesn't require fancy words.

Speak from your heart.

3️⃣ Pray for other people—not only yourself.

Intercession is a beautiful ministry.

4️⃣ Don't confuse “not yet” with “no.”

Some prayers require patience.

5️⃣ Remember to thank God when the answer comes.

Don't let answered prayers become forgotten blessings.

Write names and needs underneath each one.

Then add:

ANSWERED PRAYERS

Leave some blank space.

We're going to believe there will be something to write there. 💜

🙏 TODAY'S PRAYER

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for this Tuesday morning.

Thank You for another day of life.

Thank You for hearing us when we pray.

Lord, forgive us for the times we've worried more than we've prayed.

Forgive us for trying to carry things You told us to bring to You.

Today we bring our families.

Our children.

Our grandchildren.

Our marriages.

Our jobs.

Our businesses.

Our churches.

Our finances.

Our health.

Our grief.

Our fears.

Our dreams.

Our unanswered questions.

And our future.

We place them in Your hands.

Lord, comfort those who are grieving today.

Heal those who are sick according to Your will.

Strengthen those going through rehabilitation and recovery.

Provide for families struggling financially.

Give jobs to those seeking employment.

Protect our children and grandchildren.

Give wisdom to parents.

Strengthen marriages.

Bless our teachers and students.

Protect first responders and those serving our communities.

Strengthen pastors and churches.

Bring prodigals home.

Save the lost.

And Lord, help us become people of prayer.

Not only when something goes wrong.

Not only when we're afraid.

Not only when we need something.

But every day.

In good seasons and difficult ones.

Help us pray...

ALWAYS.

Over the rest of September, we're going to dig deeper into what it means to stand, recognize spiritual battles, use Scripture when temptation comes, strengthen our faith, protect our homes, pray for our families, and live every day prepared.

Because knowing the names of the armor isn't enough.
