Don't Be Ashamed of the Chapter God Brought You Through

Today's Scripture

"And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony..."— Revelation 12:11 (KJV)

Good Wednesday morning, authors! 💜📖✍️

Every book has chapters.

Some are beautiful.

Some are exciting.

Some make us laugh.

Some make us cry.

And then there are those chapters we would rather tear completely out of the story.

Life has chapters like that too.

There may be seasons in your past you don't like talking about.

Times you struggled.

Times you failed.

Times you were hurt.

Times you grieved.

Times you wondered how you would ever make it through.

But here you are.

You made it through the chapter.

And perhaps the chapter you once wished you could erase is the very chapter God can use to encourage somebody else.

🌿 Your Testimony Doesn't Require a Perfect Past

Sometimes we think we have to have everything figured out before God can use our story.

But look throughout Scripture.

God used people with complicated stories.

Moses had a past.

David made mistakes.

Peter denied Jesus.

Paul persecuted Christians.

Yet God didn't throw away their stories.

He redeemed them.

That's the beautiful thing about grace.

God can take what was broken and use it for His glory.

Your testimony isn't:

"Look how perfect I've always been."

Your testimony is:

"Look what God has brought me through."

💜 Your Pain May Become Someone Else's Hope

There are things we experience that we would never have chosen.

Grief.

Rejection.

Failure.

Disappointment.

Broken dreams.

Waiting seasons.

Hard lessons.

But sometimes God allows us to reach back from the other side and say to someone still walking through it:

"I've been there. Keep going."

That's powerful.

And authors have a unique opportunity to preserve those lessons through words.

Your testimony might become a book.

Your experience might become a devotional.

Your lesson might become a character.

Your struggle might become a Bible study.

Your journey might become the sentence someone reads at 2:00 in the morning when they desperately need hope.

Don't waste what God has taught you.

✍️ But Share With Wisdom

There is also something important every author needs to understand:

Not everything you've experienced has to be published.

Pray before sharing deeply personal stories.

Ask:

"Lord, is this something You want me to share?"

Consider whether other people's private experiences are part of the story.

Think about what details truly need to be included.

Make sure you're writing from healing rather than simply reacting from hurt.

There is a difference between sharing a testimony and using a book to settle a score.

Our words should bring truth, hope, understanding, and ultimately honor God.

Write honestly—but write prayerfully.

🌸 Your Scars Don't Disqualify Your Voice

Sometimes writers think:

"Who am I to encourage anybody?"

Maybe you don't have every answer.

None of us do.

But you may have something incredibly valuable:

experience.

You know what it feels like to walk through something and discover that God was still there.

You know what it feels like to pray when you didn't understand.

You know what it feels like to keep believing when life didn't look the way you expected.

And somewhere, someone may need to hear:

"God was faithful to me, and He will be faithful to you."

🙏 Wednesday Author Prayer

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for every chapter of our lives—even the ones we wouldn't have chosen.

Thank You for carrying us through seasons we once wondered if we would survive.

Give us wisdom concerning the stories we share.

Show us what should remain private and what can become a testimony that encourages someone else.

Help us never write from bitterness, revenge, or pride.

Instead, let our words flow from healing, compassion, truth, and love.

Take the lessons You've taught us and use them however You desire.

May our writing point people toward hope and ultimately toward You.

In Jesus' precious name,

Amen.

✍️ Today's Author Challenge

Write the Lesson, Not Just the Pain

Think about one difficult season you've walked through.

You don't have to share it publicly.

Simply write privately for 20 minutes.

Answer these three questions:

1. What happened?

2. What did God teach me through it?

3. How could that lesson encourage someone else?

That third question is important.

Because sometimes the purpose of telling our story isn't simply to explain what happened to us.

It's to help someone else understand:

There is hope after the hard chapter.

God is still writing.

And when He leads you to share your testimony, don't simply tell people about the darkness.

Tell them about the God who carried you through it.

Keep praying.

Keep healing.

Keep learning.
