Don't Let Anyone Discourage You—Tell Your Story and Let God Help You Write It
📖 Today's Scripture
"I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me."— Philippians 4:13 (KJV)
Good Thursday morning, authors! 💜📖✍️
This morning I want to speak directly to the writer who has heard words like:
“Nobody is going to read that.”
“You're not really a writer.”
“There are already books about that.”
“Why would anybody care about your story?”
Or maybe nobody has actually said those words aloud—but you've been saying them to yourself.
Today I want to encourage you:
Don't let discouragement silence the story inside of you.
If there is a story on your heart, write it.
If there is a testimony God has brought you through, pray about sharing it.
If there is a fictional world living in your imagination, put it on paper.
If you've dreamed of becoming an author, don't allow somebody else's opinion to decide whether you ever try.
Tell your story—and let God help you along the way.
💜 Everyone Will Not Understand Your Dream
Sometimes the people around us don't understand why writing matters so much to us.
They may see a notebook.
You see a future book.
They see hours spent at a computer.
You see characters coming alive.
They see an old memory.
You see a testimony that could encourage someone.
They see an idea.
You see a story.
And that's okay.
You don't need everybody to understand what God is doing in your heart.
You need wisdom to recognize good advice, humility to keep learning, and courage to continue when discouragement comes.
🌿 Be Teachable—But Don't Be Defeated
Now, this doesn't mean we ignore every criticism.
Authors need feedback.
We need editors.
We need proofreaders.
Sometimes someone will point out something we genuinely need to improve.
There is a difference between someone saying:
“This chapter could be stronger. Let me show you why.”
and someone saying:
“You'll never be an author.”
One can help you grow.
The other can cause you to give up if you allow it.
Learn from correction without accepting condemnation.
Ask yourself:
Is there truth here that can help me improve?
If there is—use it.
If there isn't—release it.
Then keep writing.
✍️ Your Story Doesn't Have to Look Like Someone Else's
Please stop believing your book has to sound like another author's book.
God created us differently.
Some writers are funny.
Some are serious.
Some write beautiful descriptions.
Some tell simple, powerful stories.
Some write mysteries.
Some write devotionals.
Some write children's books.
Some write testimonies.
Some write about grief, healing, family, faith, history, or life lessons.
There is room for your voice too.
You don't need to copy someone else's story.
Tell yours.
🌸 Don't Let Your Past Convince You That You Can't Help Someone
Maybe you're thinking:
“But my story isn't pretty.”
Neither are many of the stories in the Bible.
Scripture is filled with people who experienced failure, grief, betrayal, fear, mistakes, loss, waiting, and restoration.
God has never required a perfect past before He can use a willing person.
Sometimes the most powerful thing we can say is:
“This is where I was, this is what I walked through, and this is how God carried me.”
Your difficult chapter doesn't have to become your identity.
But when God leads you to share it, it can become part of your testimony.
💜 Somebody May Need the Story You're Afraid to Tell
You may be worried that nobody will read your book.
But what about one person?
What if one grieving mother reads your words and realizes she isn't alone?
What if one person struggling with their faith finds encouragement?
What if one child falls in love with reading because of your story?
What if one family preserves a tradition because your book reminded them of its importance?
What if one reader laughs on a day when they desperately needed to smile?
Would that matter?
Absolutely.
Don't become so focused on reaching thousands that you forget the value of reaching one.
🙏 Thursday Author Prayer
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for every writer reading this today.
You know the stories within their hearts.
You know the dreams they haven't told anyone about.
You know the manuscripts sitting unfinished.
And You know the discouraging words that have made some of them question whether they should continue.
Lord, give us courage.
Help us recognize helpful correction while refusing to allow destructive words to define us.
Teach us to write with wisdom, humility, honesty, and love.
Give us the strength to tell the stories You lead us to tell.
Help us improve where we need improvement.
Help us begin where we've been afraid to begin.
And when discouragement whispers that our words don't matter, remind us that even one encouraged heart matters.
Take our stories and use them according to Your will.
In Jesus' precious name,
Amen.
✍️ TODAY'S AUTHOR CHALLENGE
WRITE THE STORY ANYWAY
Today, think about the story you've been afraid to write.
Maybe you've been worried:
“What will people think?”
“Am I good enough?”
“Can I really do this?”
“What if nobody reads it?”
Today we're not answering those questions.
We're simply writing.
Set a timer for 20 minutes.
Pray first:
“Lord, help me write what You want me to write.”
Then begin.
Don't worry about publishing it yet.
Don't worry about whether anyone will like it.
Don't even worry about whether you'll keep everything you write.
Just give the story a chance to exist.
💜 THURSDAY AUTHORS HUB — LET'S ENCOURAGE SOMEONE TODAY!
Today I want us to do more than talk about our own books.
Let's encourage another writer not to quit.
📚 Published Authors:Share your book link and tell us about a time you felt discouraged but kept writing.
✍️ Current Writers:Tell us what you're working on and where you need encouragement.
💡 Future Authors:Tell us the story you've dreamed about writing—even if you've never written the first sentence.
And then everyone:
Choose at least ONE writer in the comments and encourage them.
Tell them:
“Keep writing.”
Ask about their book.
Celebrate their progress.
Share something you've learned.
Pray for their journey.
Because sometimes one encouraging sentence is exactly what another author needs to pick the pen back up.
🌷 TODAY'S ENCOURAGEMENT
“Don't hand someone else the pen and allow their discouragement to write the ending of a story God is still helping you create.”
Maybe someone told you that you couldn't.
Write anyway.
Maybe someone laughed at your idea.
Write anyway.
Maybe your first draft isn't very good yet.
Keep learning and write anyway.
Maybe you're starting later in life.
Write anyway.
Maybe you've made mistakes.
Learn from them.
Maybe you've stopped before.
Begin again.
Your story doesn't have to be perfect.
Your journey doesn't have to look like anyone else's.
And you don't need everybody's approval.
Tell your story.
Pray over it.
Learn.
Grow.
Edit.
Rewrite.
Ask for help when you need it.
And trust God with what happens next.
Because the person who discouraged you isn't the author of your life.
GOD IS STILL WRITING YOUR STORY. 💜📖✍️
And maybe it's time for you to start writing yours.
Happy Thursday, Authors!
