You Don't Have to Know Everything to Begin

📖 Today's Scripture

"If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally..."James 1:5 (KJV)

Good Friday morning, authors! 💜

Have you ever looked at everything involved in writing and publishing a book and thought:

"I don't know enough to do this."

Maybe you know how to tell a story, but you don't understand formatting.

Maybe you've written the manuscript, but ISBNs sound confusing.

Maybe you're wondering about copyright.

Maybe editing overwhelms you.

Maybe you've never designed a cover, built an author page, marketed a book, or uploaded a manuscript to a publishing platform.

And suddenly your dream of becoming an author feels enormous.

Today I want to remind you:

You don't have to know everything to take the next step.

You simply need to be willing to pray, learn, and begin.

🌿 Every Author Was Once a Beginner

Nobody wakes up knowing how to publish a book.

Every author has had a first manuscript.

A first edit.

A first cover.

A first publishing decision.

A first book launch.

A first mistake.

And probably more than one moment of saying:

"I have absolutely no idea what I'm doing!" 😊

That's part of learning.

Don't compare your beginning to somebody else's twentieth book.

Instead, ask:

"What is the next thing I need to learn?"

Then learn that.

One step at a time.

💜 God Gives Wisdom, But We Must Be Willing to Learn

James tells us that when we lack wisdom, we can ask God.

I love that.

But sometimes God's answer comes through the opportunity to learn something new.

He may send someone who knows what you don't.

He may lead you to a resource.

He may allow you to make a mistake that teaches you something you'll never forget.

He may place experienced authors around you.

That's why community matters.

We don't have to pretend we know everything.

There is strength in being able to say:

"I don't know. Can someone teach me?"

📚 Asking Questions Isn't a Sign of Weakness

Please hear this, especially if you're new to publishing:

Ask questions before making important decisions.

Before signing a publishing agreement—understand it.

Before paying for a service—understand what you're receiving.

Before choosing a publishing route—learn your options.

Before approving your book cover—make sure you're happy with it.

Before publishing—proofread again.

Before giving away rights to your work—understand exactly what you're agreeing to.

Excitement can make us want to rush.

Wisdom teaches us to slow down long enough to understand.

You worked too hard on your story to become careless at the finish line.

✍️ Don't Let Learning Become Another Form of Procrastination

There is another side to this.

Sometimes we say we're "researching" when we're actually afraid to begin.

We watch another video.

Read another article.

Buy another notebook.

Take another class.

Research another publishing company.

And six months later...

Chapter One is still blank.

There comes a point when you've learned enough for today's step.

Then you have to move.

Learn.

Apply.

Learn something else.

Apply again.

That's how growth happens.

🌸 Your First Book Will Teach You Things Your Tenth Book Will Thank You For

You will make mistakes.

I will make mistakes.

Every author does.

Maybe you'll later wish you had worded something differently.

Maybe you'll learn a better formatting technique.

Maybe your next cover will be stronger.

Maybe you'll discover a better marketing strategy.

That's okay.

Growth doesn't mean your earlier work was worthless.

It means you kept learning.

Never become ashamed of where you started.

Be grateful you were brave enough to start at all.

🙏 Friday Author Prayer

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for the gifts, ideas, stories, and testimonies You have entrusted to us.

When we don't know what to do next, give us wisdom.

Lead us to trustworthy resources and people who can help us learn.

Give us humility to ask questions and discernment when making decisions.

Protect authors from dishonest practices and rushed choices.

Help us pursue excellence without becoming trapped by perfection.

And when fear tells us we aren't qualified, remind us that growth happens one faithful step at a time.

May everything we write and publish ultimately honor You.

In Jesus' precious name,

Amen.

✍️ Today's Author Challenge

Learn ONE Thing—Then DO One Thing

Today choose one thing you don't understand about writing or publishing.

Spend a little time learning about it.

Then take one action.

For example:

📖 Learn about outlining → outline one chapter.

📝 Learn about editing → edit one page.

©️ Learn about copyright → write down your questions.

🔢 Learn about ISBNs → determine what you still need to know.

📣 Learn about marketing → create one book post.

✍️ Learn about writing consistently → write for 20 minutes.

Don't try to master the entire publishing industry today.

Learn today's lesson and take today's step.

💜 FRIDAY AUTHORS HUB — ASK AWAY!

Today I want our Authors Hub to become a learning room.

💡 What is ONE question you have about writing or publishing?

There are no silly questions.

Maybe you want to know about:

📚 Self-publishing📝 Editing & proofreading🎨 Covers🔢 ISBNs©️ Copyright💰 Pricing🛒 Selling platforms📣 Marketing⭐ Reviews✍️ Writing your first manuscript

Drop your question in the comments.

Published and experienced authors, jump in and share what you've learned along the way.

And published authors—share your book links too!

Tell us what you've written so we can celebrate and support you.

Let's build a community where knowledge isn't guarded.

We learn together. We grow together. We support one another.

🌷 Today's Encouragement

"You don't have to know everything about the journey before taking the next step. Ask God for wisdom, learn what you need, and faithfully move forward."

Maybe today you're saying:

"I don't know how."

That's okay.

Add one little word:

"I don't know how... YET."

Pray.

Ask.

Learn.

Try.

Grow.

And keep writing.

Because today's beginner may someday become the experienced author who reaches back and says to someone else:

"Come on. I'll show you what I learned." 💜📖✍️

Happy Friday & Happy Writing!
