Pick It Back Up—Your Story Isn't Finished

📖 Today’s Scripture

"For a just man falleth seven times, and riseth up again..."— Proverbs 24:16 (KJV)

Good Tuesday morning, authors! 💜📚

Maybe there is a manuscript sitting on your computer right now that you haven't opened in weeks.

Maybe there's a notebook tucked away somewhere with the beginning of a story you once couldn't wait to write.

Maybe you started strong...

Then life happened.

Work got busy.

Family needed you.

Discouragement came.

You lost your momentum.

Someone criticized your writing.

You started questioning yourself.

Or perhaps you simply got tired.

And now every time you think about returning to the manuscript, that little voice whispers:

"You've waited too long."

Author, I want you to hear this today:

Pick it back up.

You haven't waited too long.

Your unfinished manuscript isn't evidence that you failed.

It's evidence that there's still something waiting to be finished.

🌿 A Pause Doesn't Have to Become an Ending

Sometimes we believe consistency means never stopping.

But life doesn't always work that way.

There are seasons when writing flows.

There are seasons when writing slows.

And there may be seasons when writing has to stop altogether for a while.

That doesn't mean the dream is dead.

Sometimes a pause is simply a pause.

Don't turn a temporary interruption into a permanent ending.

Open the document again.

Read the last page you wrote.

Find the old notebook.

Look at the outline.

You may discover something surprising:

The story is still there waiting for you.

💜 You Don't Have to Catch Up

This is important.

When we've fallen behind, we sometimes try to make up for everything at once.

"I haven't written in two weeks, so today I'm writing five chapters!"

Then we become overwhelmed before we even begin. 😊

You don't have to make up for yesterday.

Just be faithful today.

Twenty minutes today is better than planning five hours you never begin.

One page today is better than feeling guilty about the fifty pages you didn't write last month.

God gives us grace for today.

Use today's grace for today's page.

✍️ Stop Punishing Yourself for Being Human

Authors can be terribly hard on themselves.

We miss a goal and immediately think:

"I'm undisciplined."

We struggle with a chapter:

"I'm not a good writer."

Sales slow down:

"Nobody wants my books."

We receive criticism:

"Maybe I shouldn't be doing this."

Slow down.

One difficult day doesn't define your calling.

One unfinished project doesn't define your ability.

One disappointing result doesn't determine your future.

Learn what needs to be learned.

Change what needs to be changed.

Then extend yourself enough grace to keep moving.

🌸 God Can Still Use the Unfinished

Think about how many things in your life once looked unfinished.

Prayers you were waiting on.

Dreams you couldn't understand.

Situations that seemed impossible.

Yet God continued working.

Philippians 1:6 reminds us that He who began a good work in us will perform it.

Maybe today your manuscript isn't the only unfinished thing.

God is still working on the author too.

He's teaching you patience.

Discipline.

Courage.

Wisdom.

Humility.

Perseverance.

Compassion.

And perhaps the person who eventually finishes this book will write it differently because of what God taught you during the season when you couldn't.

🙏 Tuesday Author Prayer

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for another opportunity to begin again.

Today I pray especially for the writer who has stopped.

For the author who feels discouraged.

For the person looking at an unfinished manuscript and wondering whether they should continue.

Give them fresh courage.

Remove unnecessary guilt over lost time.

Help us learn from yesterday without living there.

Restore creativity where it has become dry.

Give direction where there is confusion.

Give discipline where motivation has faded.

And if there is a story You still want us to tell, give us courage to pick it back up.

May our words encourage, inspire, teach, comfort, and ultimately glorify You.

In Jesus' precious name,

Amen.

✍️ Today's Author Challenge

OPEN IT.

That's today's challenge.

Find one unfinished writing project.

Open it.

Don't decide beforehand that you're rewriting everything.

Don't worry about publishing.

Don't start criticizing it.

Just read it.

Then spend 20 minutes working on it.

Maybe you'll write a paragraph.

Maybe you'll finish a page.

Maybe you'll discover exactly why you became stuck.

Maybe you'll realize the story needs a different direction.

Whatever happens, when you're finished, write this somewhere:

“Today I picked it back up.”

That is progress. 💜
