You Don't Need the Whole Story—Just the Next Step

📖 Today’s Scripture

"Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path."— Psalm 119:105 (KJV)

Good Wednesday morning, authors! 💜📚

Have you ever wished God would simply hand you the entire plan?

Here is the title.Here are the chapters.Here is how the story ends.Here is how you'll publish it.Here is who will read it.And here is exactly how everything will work out.

Wouldn't that make things easier? 😊

But most of the time, that's not how the journey works.

Psalm 119:105 says God's Word is a lamp unto our feet and a light unto our path.

A lamp gives enough light to take the next step.

It doesn't necessarily illuminate the entire road.

And sometimes that's exactly how God leads an author.

One step. One page. One prayer at a time.

🌿 Stop Trying to Write Chapter Twenty While You're Still on Chapter Three

Sometimes we become overwhelmed because we're trying to solve problems we haven't even reached yet.

"How am I going to publish?"

But the manuscript isn't finished.

"What if nobody buys it?"

But the book hasn't been written.

"What if I can't figure out marketing?"

But Chapter One is still sitting in a notebook.

"What if someone doesn't like it?"

Friend, somebody somewhere probably won't. 😊

And that's okay.

Don't allow tomorrow's questions to keep you from today's assignment.

Write today's page.

You'll learn tomorrow's lesson when you get there.

💜 God Often Gives Direction While We're Moving

Sometimes we want God to show us every detail before we're willing to begin.

But throughout Scripture, we see people being asked to move before they knew exactly how everything would turn out.

Abraham was told to go.

Peter was told to step out of the boat.

The disciples were told to follow.

Faith often begins with enough direction for the next step, not a complete map of the journey.

Maybe you've been praying:

"Lord, show me how this whole book is supposed to come together."

And perhaps today's answer is:

"Write the part I've already shown you."

✍️ Clarity Often Comes After the First Draft

Here's something writers learn:

Sometimes you don't completely understand your story until you've written it.

You may begin believing the book is about one thing and discover a deeper message along the way.

A character may develop differently.

A chapter may need to move.

Your title may change.

Your introduction may become Chapter Three.

That's why it's called a draft.

You aren't carving the words into stone.

You're building something.

Give yourself permission to discover the story while writing it.

Progress can create clarity.

🌸 Don't Let the Size of the Dream Scare You

A book can feel enormous.

Fifty thousand words.

Two hundred pages.

Twenty chapters.

Editing.

Formatting.

Covers.

Publishing.

Marketing.

Reviews.

Whew! 😄

So don't carry all of it today.

What is your next step?

Maybe it's:

✍️ 500 words.

📖 One page.

📝 Editing one chapter.

💡 Creating an outline.

📚 Researching one publishing question.

🙏 Praying about the direction of your manuscript.

One small step may not feel impressive.

But books are built from small steps repeated faithfully.

**A page becomes a chapter.

Chapters become a manuscript.A manuscript becomes a book.**

🙏 Wednesday Author Prayer

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for being the light for our path.

We confess that sometimes we want to know everything before we're willing to move.

Help us trust You when we can only see the next step.

Give wisdom to the writer who feels confused.

Give courage to the person afraid to begin.

Give patience to the author who wants everything to happen immediately.

Show us what You would have us do today.

Help us stop worrying about problems that haven't happened and opportunities that haven't arrived.

Give us enough faith to faithfully work on what You've placed before us now.

Guide our words.

Guide our decisions.

Guide our publishing journeys.

And may everything we create ultimately bring honor to You.

In Jesus' precious name,

Amen.

✍️ Today's Author Challenge

WHAT IS YOUR NEXT STEP?

Don't make a list of twenty things.

Choose ONE.

Write it down:

“Today, my next step is __________.”

Then do it.

Maybe:

💜 Write for 20 minutes.

📖 Finish one page.

📝 Edit one section.

💡 Outline one chapter.

📚 Research one question.

📣 Create one promotional post.

🙏 Pray over your manuscript.

When it's finished, don't immediately worry about the next ten steps.

Celebrate today's progress.

Then tomorrow...

take another one.

Take the step.

Write the page.

God already sees the road ahead.

You don't have to.

You simply have to walk faithfully with Him.
