Writing from the Overflow Scripture:“ A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh.” — Luke 6:45 (KJV)
As writers, our words flow from the deepest places of our hearts. What we meditate on, what we love, and what we dwell upon shapes every paragraph we create. That’s why time with God isn’t just preparation for writing — it is the foundation of it.
When your heart is full of His Word, His presence, and His peace, your writing naturally reflects it. Your words begin to carry healing, encouragement, conviction, and hope. But when we rush through life without refilling our spiritual well, our words can start to feel dry, forced, or empty.
God doesn’t want you to write from exhaustion — He wants you to write from overflow. When you spend time in prayer, worship, and scripture, the Holy Spirit fills you with fresh inspiration and direction. Then, when you sit down to write, you’re not striving to find words — you’re simply releasing what God has already placed inside you.
Your writing becomes more than expression; it becomes ministry. It becomes a reflection of the living water flowing through you.
Reflection Prayer:
Lord, fill my heart with Your presence so that my words overflow with Your truth and love. Help me to write from the abundance of a heart that is anchored in You. May everything I create point others closer to Your light. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Today’s Challenge:Take ten quiet minutes today before you write — no screens, no noise, no to-do lists. Simply rest in God’s presence. Let Him refill your heart so your words flow from the overflow of His Spirit.
