The Heart Behind the Words Scripture:“Man looketh on the outward appearance, but the Lord looketh on the heart.”—1 Samuel 16:7 (KJV)
Devotional: As an author, it’s easy to focus on perfecting the words on the page—the structure, the tone, the flow. But God is more concerned with why you write than what you write. He looks past the polish to the heart behind every word.
You may never top a bestseller list or receive public praise, but if your words come from a heart surrendered to Him, they already carry eternal value. God measures success not by visibility, but by obedience.
When you write from a place of love, humility, and faith, your words become a reflection of Christ’s heart. Even the smallest act of writing—when done for His glory—becomes an offering of worship.
So today, before you write another sentence, ask Him to search your heart. Let every word that flows from your pen honor the One who gave you the gift to write.
Reflection Prompt: What motivates your writing? How can you realign your heart today to write purely for God’s glory?
Prayer: Lord, search my heart and purify my motives. Let every word I write come from a place of love, faith, and humility. May my writing bring glory to Your name and draw others closer to Your heart. In Jesus’ name, amen.
