🌳 ROOTED AND GROUNDED

Building a Life That Can Bear Fruit

October Theme: The Fruit of the SpiritGrowing in Grace • Rooted in Christ • Bearing Fruit for His Glory

šŸ“– TODAY’S THEME SCRIPTURE

ā€œRooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving.ā€Colossians 2:7 (KJV)

ā˜• GOOD MORNING & HAPPY SATURDAY, BIBLE STUDY FAMILY!

Yesterday we talked about Jesus being the VineĀ and how we must stay connected to Him if we want to bear spiritual fruit.

Today, I want us to go a little deeper—literally! 🌱

Let’s talk about the part of the plant nobody sees:

THE ROOTS.

When we look at a beautiful fruit tree, we notice the fruit.

We notice the branches.

We notice the leaves and blossoms.

But underneath the ground is an entire root system we cannot see.

And without those roots, none of the beauty above the ground could survive.

Friend, there’s a spiritual lesson here.

People see what is happening on the outside of our lives.

They see our words.

Our actions.

Our church attendance.

Our service.

Our Facebook posts.

But God also sees what is happening beneath the surface.

He sees our prayer life.

He sees our private choices.

He sees our motives.

He sees what we think about.

He sees what we do when nobody else is watching.

And if we want healthy spiritual fruit—

WE NEED DEEP SPIRITUAL ROOTS.

🌳 WHERE ARE YOUR ROOTS?

Psalm 1:2–3 describes the person whose delight is in God’s law:

ā€œAnd he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his seasonā€¦ā€

I love that picture.

A tree planted beside water has a continual source of nourishment.

When hot weather comes, the roots can still reach water.

When wind blows, deep roots help the tree remain standing.

And when the proper season arrives—

fruit appears.

The same is true spiritually.

If our roots go deep into God’s Word, prayer, truth, and our relationship with Jesus, we have somewhere to draw strength when difficult seasons come.

SHALLOW ROOTS MAY SURVIVE EASY WEATHER.

DEEP ROOTS HELP US STAND THROUGH THE STORM.

šŸ“– WHAT ARE YOU FEEDING YOUR ROOTS?

We cannot feed ourselves spiritually on negativity, anger, comparison, gossip, fear, and constant distraction and then wonder why peace and joy are struggling to grow.

What we continually allow into our hearts matters.

Ask yourself:

šŸ“± What am I watching?

šŸ‘‚ What am I listening to?

šŸ’ What am I constantly thinking about?

šŸ—£ļø What conversations am I participating in?

šŸ“– How much time am I spending in God’s Word?

šŸ™ Am I praying only when something goes wrong?

Friend, we need to be intentional about what is feeding our roots.

If we want biblical truth to shape our lives, we have to spend time learning biblical truth.

WHAT YOU FEED WILL GROW.

🌱 GROWTH OFTEN HAPPENS WHERE NOBODY CAN SEE IT

Maybe you have been praying and wondering:

ā€œLord, am I growing at all?ā€

Maybe you don’t see dramatic changes.

But remember—

Before a seed ever appears above the ground, something is happening underneath.

Roots are forming.

Growth is beginning.

Nobody sees it yet.

Friend, don’t become discouraged simply because your spiritual growth isn’t always dramatic.

Maybe you stopped yourself before saying something hurtful.

That’s growth.

Maybe you prayed instead of immediately panicking.

That’s growth.

Maybe you forgave something you once would have held onto.

That’s growth.

Maybe you opened your Bible instead of feeding your worry.

That’s growth.

Maybe you apologized when you realized you were wrong.

That’s growth.

Maybe you responded more gently than you would have six months ago.

That’s growth.

DON’T DESPISE QUIET GROWTH.

God can do tremendous work beneath the surface before anyone else sees the fruit.

šŸŒ¬ļø DEEP ROOTS MATTER WHEN THE STORM COMES

We cannot wait until the storm arrives to decide we need roots.

Build them now.

Read Scripture when life is good.

Pray when there isn’t an emergency.

Worship when everything is going well.

Learn God’s promises before you desperately need to remember them.

Build your relationship with Jesus in every season.

Because storms come in different forms.

Disappointment.

Loss.

Rejection.

Uncertainty.

Conflict.

Unexpected change.

And when those seasons come, our faith needs something deeper than emotion to hold onto.

We need roots.

DON’T BUILD YOUR FAITH ONLY FOR SUNNY DAYS.

šŸ’œ STOP COMPARING YOUR GROWTH

Here is another reminder for us as we begin October.

Please don’t compare your roots with someone else’s fruit.

You may be looking at somebody who has walked with Jesus for decades and thinking:

ā€œWhy am I not where they are?ā€

Friend, keep growing.

Your spiritual journey isn’t a competition.

Encourage one another.

Learn from mature believers.

But keep your eyes on Jesus.

Ask:

ā€œAm I more rooted in Christ today than I was before?ā€

That is what matters.

šŸ‡ ROOTS BEFORE FRUIT

We are going to spend this month studying:

ā¤ļø Love😊 JoyšŸ•Šļø Peaceā³ Longsuffering🤲 Gentleness🌻 GoodnessšŸ™ Faith🌿 Meekness🧭 Temperance

But before we start looking closely at each one, God is teaching us something important:

FRUIT DOESN’T BEGIN WITH FRUIT.

It begins with the source.

Yesterday:

🌿 ABIDE IN THE VINE.

Today:

🌳 DEEPEN THE ROOTS.

Then, as we walk with Christ and yield ourselves to the Holy Spirit—

šŸ‡ FRUIT GROWS.

šŸ™ TODAY’S PRAYER

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for another beautiful day.

Lord, help me become deeply rooted in You.

Give me a hunger for Your Word and a desire to spend time with You in prayer.

Show me what I have been allowing to feed my heart and mind.

If something is weakening my spiritual roots, give me wisdom and courage to change it.

Help me grow even when nobody else sees it.

Strengthen my faith before the storms come.

When difficult seasons arrive, help me draw from the truth I have learned in Your Word.

Keep me rooted in Jesus.

And as my roots grow deeper, let the Fruit of the Spirit become more visible in my life.

In Jesus’ precious name,

Amen.Ā šŸ’œ

🌳 TODAY’S ROOT CHALLENGE

Take a few minutes today and draw a simple tree in your Bible-study notebook.

Under the ground, write:

MY ROOTS

Then write around the roots:

šŸ“– God’s WordšŸ™ Prayerāœļø Jesusā¤ļø ObediencešŸŽ¶ WorshipšŸ¤ Christian FellowshipšŸ’œ Gratitude

Above the tree, write:

THE FRUIT I WANT GOD TO GROW

Then list:

Love • Joy • Peace • Longsuffering • Gentleness • Goodness • Faith • Meekness • Temperance

Finally pray:

ā€œLORD, DEEPEN MY ROOTS SO MY LIFE CAN BEAR FRUIT FOR YOUR GLORY.ā€

šŸ’ TODAY’S QUESTION

If someone could see the rootsĀ of your spiritual life instead of only what appears above the surface, what would they find?

Strong roots?

Dry roots?

Distracted roots?

Growing roots?

Roots reaching deeper toward Jesus?

Don’t answer with condemnation.

Answer honestly—and let God show you where to grow. šŸ’œ

šŸ“– SCRIPTURE TO REMEMBER

ā€œAs ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him:Rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faithā€¦ā€Colossians 2:6–7 (KJV)

🌻 CLOSING THOUGHT

Friend, the world often notices fruit.

God also cares about roots.

You don’t have to impress everybody with what is visible on the outside.

Spend time developing what happens when nobody is watching.

Open your Bible.

Pray.

Worship.

Obey.

Repent when needed.

Stay connected to Jesus.

And keep growing.

Because when your roots go deep into Christ, you will have somewhere to draw strength when life becomes difficult.

🌳 DEEP ROOTS.

🌿 STRONG FAITH.

šŸ‡ HEALTHY FRUIT.

Stay rooted in Christ and let God grow something beautiful in your life.Ā šŸ’œ

šŸ‡ TOMORROW — SUNDAY, OCTOBER 4

āœ‚ļø THE MASTER’S PRUNING

When God Removes What Hinders Growth

ā€œā€¦every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit.ā€John 15:2 (KJV)

Tomorrow we’ll talk about one of the harder parts of spiritual growth:

PRUNING.

What might God be asking us to surrender?

What needs cutting away?

And why can some of our most uncomfortable seasons become seasons of tremendous spiritual growth?

Have a beautifully blessed Saturday, Bible Study Family! šŸ’œšŸŒ³šŸ‡šŸ“–

God is so, so good!
