š Slow-Cooked Chicken, Gravy & Biscuit Camp Stew
A humble, comforting winter mealārich gravy, tender chicken, and soft biscuit pieces simmered together.
Serves:Ā 6ā8Prep Time:Ā 15 minutes Cook Time:Ā 45 minutes
This is the kind of meal chuckwagon cooks made when folks needed something filling, gentle, and satisfying after days of cold weather.
š Ingredients
2 tbsp butter or bacon grease
1 small onion, diced
2 cloves garlic, minced
3 tbsp flour
4 cups chicken broth
2 cups cooked shredded chicken
1 tsp poultry seasoning or thyme
½ tsp black pepper
½ tsp salt (to taste)
1 cup milk or half-and-half
For the Biscuits
2 cups biscuit dough, cut into small pieces(store-bought or homemade)
š³ Instructions
Build the Gravy BaseIn a Dutch oven, melt butter over medium heat. Add onion and garlic; cook until soft. Sprinkle in flour and stir constantly for 1 minute.
Add Broth SlowlyGradually whisk in chicken broth, stirring until smooth and thickened.
Add Chicken & SeasoningStir in shredded chicken, poultry seasoning, salt, and pepper. Reduce heat to a gentle simmer.
Add Biscuit PiecesGently drop biscuit pieces into the stew. Do not stir too muchājust nudge them down into the gravy.
Cover & SimmerCover and simmer 12ā15 minutes, until biscuits are fluffy and cooked through.
Finish CreamyStir in milk or half-and-half. Warm through gently and serve hot.
