☕ Food for Thought: Let Them See Jesus, Not Me

Good morning, family and friends. ❤️

As I sit here with my morning coffee, I've been thinking about peace.

If we spend every day looking for everything that's wrong with this world, we're certainly going to find it.

I'm not naive. I know there is evil in this world. I know terrible things happen. I know people hurt one another, and I know there are circumstances around us that can trouble our hearts.

But there is still GOOD.

There are still people who care.

There are still neighbors helping neighbors.

There are still people quietly feeding the hungry, helping families, praying for strangers, encouraging the brokenhearted, giving when nobody is watching, and loving people through difficult seasons.

And as Christians, we should be part of that good.

Jesus said:

"Ye are the light of the world..." — Matthew 5:14 KJV

But here's what was really on my heart this morning:

We aren't called to shine only when we're surrounded by our church family.

It's pretty easy to act like a Christian inside the church building.

What about Monday morning?

What about the grocery store?

What about work?

What about social media?

What about when somebody is rude to us?

What about when nobody knows we're Christians?

Our light should shine through the way we interact with this world every single day.

And while we're examining the world around us, maybe we need to spend a little more time examining ourselves.

It's easy to point at somebody else's shortcomings.

It's much harder to say:

"Lord, search MY heart."

We have to stop thinking we're better than someone else simply because their struggle looks different from ours.

Everything good in my life came from God.

"Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above..." — James 1:17 KJV

My blessings aren't evidence that I'm better than somebody else.

They're evidence that God has been good to me.

And because God has blessed us, He gives us opportunities to bless others.

But this is where we need to check our hearts.

Jesus taught:

"But when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth:" — Matthew 6:3 KJV

That Scripture speaks loudly to me.

Not every good deed needs a picture.

Not every gift needs an announcement.

Not every person we help needs to become a Facebook post.

Not every donation needs our name attached to it.

Not everything we do for the church needs recognition.

Sometimes the most beautiful blessing is the one nobody knows came from you.

I love being able to do something for someone and have them never know where it came from.

Why?

Because I don't want them looking at me.

I want them looking at GOD.

If God opens a door and allows me to bless somebody, then I'm simply being a steward of something He placed in my hands.

The glory belongs to Him.

Jesus continued:

"That thine alms may be in secret: and thy Father which seeth in secret himself shall reward thee openly." — Matthew 6:4 KJV

That's enough for me.

God saw it.

I don't need applause.

I don't need recognition.

I don't need my name on it.

I don't need someone saying, "Look what Sarah did."

I'd much rather somebody walk away saying:

"Look what GOD did!"

So today I'm checking my own heart.

Before I give, serve, help, post, speak, or do something for someone else, I want to ask:

Am I doing this because I genuinely love them?

Am I doing this because God placed it on my heart?

Would I still do it if absolutely nobody knew?

Am I pointing people toward Jesus—or toward myself?

Those can be uncomfortable questions, but they're important ones.

Let's be careful of the "Look what I did!" spirit.

Choose humility.

Choose gratitude.

Choose kindness.

Choose peace.

Choose to quietly be the hands and feet of Jesus.

And when God gives you an opportunity to bless somebody today, maybe don't tell anyone.

Just smile.

Let it remain between you and God. ❤️

My prayer today is:

Lord, search my heart. Keep me humble and grateful for everything You have given me. Help me see the good around me without ignoring those who are hurting. Give me opportunities to quietly bless others. Guard my heart from pride and the desire for recognition. When people see something good in my life, please don't let them see me—let them see JESUS. May everything I do bring glory to You. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Do good. Love people. Stay humble. Give God the glory.
